1. Concept Phase: Our design engineers work directly with the customer to define the project details from initial concept through finished product. We listen closely to the customer, paying careful attention to their application needs, the operating environment, and the usage requirements of the equipment. It is a true collaboration, driven by our belief that detailed planning leads to effective design engineering and precise, efficient manufacturing.
2. Design Phase: UMD engineers develop a product design incorporating the guidelines established during the concept stage. As the design work evolves, we often develop new innovations and architecture which improve upon the original concepts. Where appropriate these are added to the design and final design specifications are committed to an engineering blueprint.
3. Production Phase: The production phase includes construction and modification of the parts needed to assemble the final product. UMD fabricates each component based on the exact specifications provided in the engineering design print. We then assemble the parts into a working model of the product and add finishing applications.
4. Setup and Testing Phase: After production is completed, the assembled, working model is rigorously tested using actual customer products. We perform a complete diagnostic and process test on all working parts of the product, paying special attention to the structural components and overall assembly of the product.

Software & Controls
UMD software and control solutions keep your system operating with the efficiency, accuracy and speed that your application demands. Our in-house electrical engineering team provides complete design, development and integration of automated control systems with all of our products. And to ensure that every system functions precisely as envisioned, we work closely with every customer to develop the operational specifications and devices required for system control. Each system is then built and tested in our electrical shop and can be commissioned on site by our trained staff.

Software and Controls team provides the following services:
Successful projects result from a clearly defined plan and proper design. UMD maintains an established but evolving planning process to assure that our design meets and exceeds your requirements. Every project begins with creation of a Control Functional Specification (CFS), the guiding document that defines the project and become the basis for design, programming and development of the control system. The design process includes project review, equipment submittals and system one-line diagrams for your consideration and approval.
Custom Software Solutions
You deserve a software solution that is more than "just adequate." While many off-the-shelf software packages provide functionality that "gets the job done", none are unique to your operation or your company. UMD sees it a bit differently. It is our responsibility to provide a software package that delivers excellent performance while allowing your input for the look and feel of the final product. We make this happen by creating custom software solutions, utilizing pre-packaged software and often combining the best of both.
Control Panel Fabrication
UMD's panel shop is set up to deliver superior quality and production efficiency. We have established standard practices that help us manufacture neat, accurately wired panels consistently. We use only best quality components from leading manufacturers that are readily available for ease of maintenance. We test each panel, then review and clarify its documentation prior to shipment. Each panel ships with a full set of documents that includes drawings, user manuals and bills of material for equipment used.
Many of the panels we build are designed specifically for mechanical systems purchased from UMD. To simplify and speed installation in the field, we provide comprehensive Machine Pre-Wiring services ranging from temporary wiring for testing to complete conduit, wire, termination and connection. UMD follows the latest national standards and applies its own stringent quality standards to ensure that your equipment is ready to install and easy to service in years to come.
