Solution Designs: UMD is able to custom design and manufacture equipment specific to our customer's requirements and specifications. Working in cooperation with our customer's, we engineer a variety of customer-specific equipment lines.
By utilizing the resources of our customers and suppliers, our engineering team is able to draw from extensive experience to design and develop equipment. This ensures that the end product is effective at meeting our customer’s needs, efficient in operation, and built to the highest quality standards. We encourage communication with our customers during the design and manufacturing process. Whether improving on an existing system or the complete design for a new facility, our customer’s involvement help’s to create a safe, productive and efficient material handling system suited specifically to their application.
Manufacturing: UMD manufactures a variety of standard modular conveyor and other material handling systems. However, our strength and focus has always been on customization principles, and flexible designs. UMD can design and build a material handling and conveyor system for nearly any application, including mobile units used in the transportation industry. Our staff of trained professionals specializes in developing problem solving systems, which meet and exceed the objectives of our customers. Our unique approach to design and development allow us to provide solutions outside the limitations of the pre-engineered and standardized systems, and create solutions that address not only the project objectives, but solve real business problems as well.

Automation & Controls: UMD offers complete design, development and integration of automated control systems with all of our products. Developing a control system begins with the creation of a (CFS) control functional specification. We work with our customer’s to develop the system operation and devices required for control of the system. This document becomes the basis for the design, programming, and development of the control system.
Each system is designed by our electrical engineering staff; built and tested to CSA specifications in our electrical shop and commissioned on site by our trained staff.

Production Process: UMD has developed a comprehensive production process, which is applied to every project we engage. This process ensures that the end result is effective at addressing the needs of the customer, constructed of the highest quality materials and operates in an efficient manner relative to the application for which it is intended.
UMD assigns a project engineer to each and every project. The project engineer guides the project team through a comprehensive production process. Our production process employs an approach which covers each aspect of concept through operation.
- Concept: Our design engineers work directly with the customer to conceptualize and envision the project details, and finished product. Our engineers pay careful attention to the application needs, environment, and usage requirements of the product, and develop several scaled models for testing before committing to production.
Through Research and Development, we are able to determine which of the concept models best fits the application environment, and then work toward the design phase of the process.
- Design: Once a concept has been established, the Design Engineers of UMD work to develop a design, which incorporates the guidelines, set forth during the concept stage of the process, and further develops new innovations and architecture, which improves upon that of the original concept models.
Following further tests and revisions of the model, our engineers work to build a scaled prototype model, which serves as the basis for the final design will be based upon. Once the design model is completed and tested thoroughly, the final design specifications are committed to an engineering blueprint.
- Production: The production phase of the process entails the construction and modification of the parts used to assemble the completed product. Each component is fabricated based on the exact specifications provided in the engineering design print.
The parts are then assembled into a working model of the product, and finishing applications are applied.
Setup and Testing: Once the production phase is completed, the assembled, working model is then rigorously tested, using actual customer products. A complete diagnostic and process test is performed on all working parts of the product, and special attention is paid to the structural components and overall assembly of the product.
- On-Site Training: Due to the custom nature of most of our products, UMD offers complete, on-site training services by qualified and trained personnel. Our committed training staff works to ensure that the proper and safe operation of our equipment is understood and available. Additionally, we offer a variety of support and training services available for both current and future projects.
- Installation: UMD offers comprehensive installation
services for the products we create, provided by factory trained and certified installation personnel. Our installation services are guaranteed, and can accommodate all types of environments and work schedules to best suit the needs of our customers.
